to never call names when we fight
to hold you close through dark of night
to always say that you look great
to be there to "communicate"

to fill the gas tank when it's dry
to look you right square in the eye
to always put the seat lid down
to hug you when you wear a frown

to do the dishes in the sink
to couple's skate with you at the rink
to turn the game off when we talk
to hold your hand wherever we walk

to say the food is delicious
to never ever be malicious
to try and accept your manly scratching
to try and do it when you're not watching

to say "I love you" before each sleep
to comfort you each time you weep
to never say "I told you so"
to be the best friend that you know

to clean my hair our of the drain
to kiss the spots that cause you pain
to be graceful, noble and inspiring
to never do the comb-over thing

to really listen when you speak
to be your strength when you speak
to share my dreams and fears with you
to be supportive when you do

to place you high above all others
to be as nice as possible to your mother
to understand you have a past
to work to make our happiness last

to always be truthful, to never deceive
to stand beside you and never leave
to rub your back and, yes, your feet
to kiss your neck and wash your feet

to keep the promises that I make
